Description

The Sierra Azul Nursery and Garden focuses on plants and horticulture for California’s Mediterranean environment. They transport plants from worldwide for irrigation gardens and landscapes. The owner, Jeff Rosendale, began this work during a landmark droughts of 1975-76 and has been operating in an area of 6.5 acres for 30 years. The nursery collaborates with the Pajaro Valley Art Council for their favorite yearly activity “Sculpture Is” (“Sculpture is a place”), which provides a venue for artists to showcase their artwork in the wonderful landscape of the nursery. This year more then 100 statues by over 50 painters are on view from June 1 to October 31 in their two acres of exhibition garden. The Rosendales see their gardens as a space that connects them to the natural world, with many remarkable features of colour and contrast.

Guided excursions are provided and people are free to wander through the sculpture gardens. The hotel has a space for a picnic.

A large variety of plants suitable for the Mediterranean environment, such as fruit trees and plants for shadow gardens are available for purchase. Garden items, instruments and souvenirs can be bought in the local market. Check the “Extra activities on the farm” box on the “Events” menu.
