Winterthur Garden is situated in the middle of a nature reserve of 1000 hectares with hilly meadows and forests and shows the creative view and life activity of its designer Henry Francis du Pont (1880-1969). His naturally inspired design, which was inspired by the countryside of the Brandywine Valley, also expresses Henry du Pont’s passion for the “wild garden” style, popular in England, which he strove to adjust to the American environment.
Winterthur Garden is distinguished among American squares by its dimensions and scale, age and infrequent collections of plants, as well as the general refinement of the aesthetic design. Besides its famous garden, Winterthur has one of the best museums of American ornamental culture in the country. It also has renowned postgraduate programs in art preservation and physical education, as well as an excellent scientific library.
