The jewel in the lush and beautiful University of Idaho campus is the 63-acre UI Botanical Garden in the South Valley, where the president of Nez Perce Drive, with the rolling hills of Palouse in the background. The botanical garden is open all year round and is free from sunrise to sunset. Free parking and portable restrooms are located at 1200 W. Palouse River Drive at the southern end of the Botanic Gardens, the golf course parking lot at the northern end of 1215 Nez Perce Drive, and the golf clubhouse public restrooms.

Most of the botanical gardens are divided into regional flora from Asia, Europe, the Orient, and America, and there is an exhibition garden at the southern end of the site. The main dirt road diverts approximately 1.5 miles into the botanical garden. The gravel road surface and some steep slopes can be difficult for the disabled. There are also several trails that overlook the botanical garden and surrounding landscape and overlook Oregon’s Blue Mountains. The botanical collection of the botanical garden contains more than 17,000 plants in more than 27,000 different categories.
