New Mexico State University Landscape Demonstration Garden
The Fabian Garcia Science Center is part of the New Mexico State University Agricultural Experimentation Station (NMSU). The facility is located on University Avenue, on the west of Main Street, it has a landscaped demonstration garden and research facilities for cotton, onion, pecans and chile. Fabian Garcia, the creator of the name of the center, started the research on these crops more than 100 years ago and the results are still being passed on.
The Landscape Demonstration Garden displays more than 200 labeled trees, shrubs and ground cover plants. Each plant has a scientific name, a common name, a hardness zone and a decorative symbol. For example, apple and bird signs indicate that they are fruit plants that attract birds.
