The botanical garden was founded by Robert (Bob) and Frances Bickelhaupt in 1970 and donated to Eastern Iowa Community College in 2014. It has now become part of EICC Clinton Community College.
Bickelhaupt Botanic Garden Bench Bickelhaupts started the Botanic Garden in response to Dutch elm disease, which destroyed most of Clinton’s large street trees. Subsequently, the supervision of the Botanical Garden was entrusted to his daughter Francis B. Hill.
The botanical garden offers visitors award-winning collections, courses, tours, loaner libraries and museum exhibits of native animals.
The Bickelhaupt Arboretum’s mission is to establish a connection between people and plants through a better understanding of gardening by developing and maintaining a well-documented collection of landscape plants suitable for education and entertainment in the area.
From sunset to sunset, the Botanical Garden is open to everyone free of charge 365 days a year.
